Where to Go For Care

Consider all of your options when deciding where to go for medical care.

Many people are surprised to find out that the Emergency Room is not always the best option. Be prepared by knowing the best place to go based on your medical condition.

When you should call the nurse line:

  • Sick child
  • Not knowing when to visit primary care provider
  • Unknown questions or feelings about your health

Primary Care Provider (PCP)

Your primary care provider is your main care provider and should be called when:

  • Make an appointment for vaccines
  • Adult health screening
  • Help with colds, flu, fevers that are persistent
  • Care for ongoing health issues

Urgent Care Center

Urgent Care visits should happen when your primary care provider’s office is closed, and your concerns are not life threatening

  • Sprains
  • Ear infections
  • Sinus infections
  • Fever
  • Flu symptoms

Emergency Room (ER)

Emergency Rooms visits should occur after you’ve considered all of your options. Emergency rooms visits should happen when members are experiencing a life-threatening injury or illness such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Bad burns
  • Drug overdose
  • Gun or knife wound
  • Labor pains or bleeding during pregnancy
  • Trouble breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Heart attack symptoms
  • Not being able to move, speak, or stand
  • Seizures
