Important Update: Member ID Card Changes Effective March 28, 2025
Starting March 28, 2025, WellCare of North Carolina will begin mailing updated member ID cards to:
- New members
- Members requesting replacement cards
- Members with a Primary Care Provider (PCP) change
Key Update: PCP Assignment at the AMH (Practice) Level
To improve member and provider experiences, ID cards will no longer display an individual PCP’s first and last name The ID card will show the Advanced Medical Home (AMH) practice name and address, which means:
- Member ID cards list the assignment to an AMH/PCP practice, not a specific provider.
- They can receive care from any provider within that practice.
- This update minimizes unnecessary AMH/PCP change requests and reduces administrative burdens.
Why This Change?
By listing the AMH (group) name instead of a specific provider, we aim to:
- Reduce member and provider confusion when individual AMH/PCP assignments change.
- Ensure continuity of care within a member’s assigned practice.
- Simplify administrative processes related to AMH/PCP change requests.
How to Confirm Member PCP Assignments
Providers can verify a member’s assigned AMH group or request changes by:
- Calling Provider Services at 1-866-799-5318 (TTY: 711)
- Using the provider portal at www.WellCareNC.com
For any questions about this update or member assignments, please contact us. Thank you for your partnership in providing quality care to WellCare of North Carolina members.
