Health Plan GLP-1 Benefit Changes Notification
The following information was shared with members who previously had authorizations for GLP-1s for weight loss which were terminated on 10/1/25, as well as on the member website.
This letter is for Medicaid members who previously had coverage for GLP-1 weight loss medications (such as Wegovy, Zepbound, and Saxenda). That coverage ended on September 30, 2025. Please read this carefully as this letter contains important information about your NC Medicaid benefits.
As of December 12, 2025, GLP-1 weight loss medications (such as Wegovy, Zepbound, and Saxenda) are covered as part of your NC Medicaid benefits. Talk to your doctor about whether restarting these medications may be right for you. If your doctor thinks you may benefit, they can submit a new request for pre-approval.
WellCare of North Carolina will continue to cover GLP-1 medications for diabetes and other covered diagnoses. If you are not sure whether you qualify for coverage of a GLP-1 medication for these or other reasons, please contact your doctor to discuss.
